Salvage hunter sisters
How about that blue beauty?! I am now the proud owner of this Olivetti typewriter. And I’m completely smitten.
I have Heather and Lori Oliphant, the sleuthing sisters who search out all things old and forgotten, to thank for my new found crush. They are the force behind art of vintage, a crazy cool vintage sales and rental shop based here in Calgary.
Did someone say vintage sale?
Every Fall and Spring they hold a pop-up sale and I was lucky enough to crash their party this past weekend.
The Oliphant sisters grew up on the family farm not far from Eston, Saskatchewan, where their Dad who is now 88 years young, always had an appreciation for antiques and refurbishing things rather than throwing them out.
You can purchase or rent these vintage finds.
Every piece in the collection is available for purchase or rent. What amazing props or decor these pieces would be for a wedding, a fundraising function, or a corporate Christmas party.
So many fascinating and eclectic things to look at. I was impressed with not only the quality of the pieces, but that the prices were very reasonable. I paid $55 for my typewriter. Score!
Each piece has story.
In turns out art of vintage is a bit of a family affair. A niece does social media and web design, a nephew helped me lug out my purchases and I’m pretty sure I met some cousins too. The whole ‘fam jam’ was there, as Heather would say. And they were all delightful!
Check out that rotary dial phone. Or, how about that radio? Imagine all the stories these pieces could tell. The families, the different eras and memories they have been part of. I like to think that whoever owned the typewriter before me must have surely loved letter writing as much as I do.
What about you? Have you been to a vintage sale before? Or perhaps you have some vintage treasures yourself lurking in the attic?
P.S. I also scooped up the smallest of the trunks shown in the photo. It’s one of those old cosmetic suitcases, the ones with the mirror on the inside of the lid. I was going to use it myself, but once my oldest girl got her hands on it, I haven’t seen it since.

Ah, so many treasures! I love the typewriter. I typed many a college paper on a manual, portable typewriter. My 21 year old daughter is on the hunt for one.

I so love that your 21 year old daughter is on the hunt for a typewriter Pam! I am curious to know her motivation? Sure do hope she finds a beauty. Thanks for sharing.

I love vintage sales and shops. Apparently I have a problem with vintage cutlery, my most recent purchase was a bone handled cheese knife and grapefruit knife.
I spent some happy hours putting together an outfit for Goodwood Revival this year…read excuse to buy a vintage hat or two…hope I didn’t offend anyone with the fur but it was older than me. The next date is already in my diary and this time I might convince myself I have room for some more lovely china.

Hi there Julie, I loved hearing about your vintage cutlery problem! 🙂 It doesn’t take much to find an excuse for a wee vintage purchase. I bet your outfit looked completely authentic.
Melanie
I LOVE vintage almost anything. Of course, I have to pause when a rotary phone (like the one in the picture) is called “vintage” because I remember using those in my 20s and if it’s vintage then I probably am too! 🙂 I’m eyeing that metal covered cheese plate (marked “40”). I want to see something typed with your Olivetti. Congrats on your finds and thanks for sharing them with us!
Barb
I’m vintage too Melanie, so we are in good company. 🙂 I will definitely type something up for you on my new Olivetti, great idea! Thanks for chatting.
