February – The perfect month to give letter writing a try
If ever there was a time to dive into the world of letter writing, it is February, the perfect month to give letter writing a try.
Reasons why? It is a short month. And there are several organized letter writing initiatives to encourage you to put pen to paper. Not to mention Valentine’s Day is in February. Isn’t that reason enough?
- InCoWriMo
- Month of Letters
- 52 Letters in a Year
- #BookLoverPostcardSwap SIGN UP BY END OF DAY JAN 26
And while you are at it, make note on your calendar now as in April there is the “Write_On”campaign.
Tips to make it easy on yourself
If you are a newbie (and I say that with the utmost affection) to letter writing it can be a bit daunting. Here are a few suggestions to make it easy:
- use smaller paper so you don’t feel intimidated by a huge blank piece of paper that you must fill
- maybe try a postcard
- what to write about? start by sharing a couple of things about yourself (hobbies, why you are writing a letter in this digital world, favorite movie/book, something about where you live) and then ask the person you are writing a question about themselves.
- only write a letter when you feel like it; don’t turn it into an obligation or chore as the joy of letter writing will no longer be joyful
