I hit the jack pot this week. The pot of gold as they say. Problem was I didn’t know how to find it.
Once I stumbled upon this amazing cover shot by UPPERCASE Magazine which proudly announces “Special Stationery Issue” I knew I had to get my hands on a copy. Initially I saw it on some random website. You know how it is, something grabs your eye as you are exploring the vast, often overwhelming, plethora of sights online. You mean to bookmark it, but then before you know it, you are on some different rabbit trail altogether.
Surprisingly I managed to find it again, and after a bit of sleuthing, guess what I discovered? It is published right here in Calgary! What a great excuse to go on a bit of an excursion to visit the actual office of UPPERCASE Magazine.
I was not disappointed. Jocelyn, who I am going to appoint as ambassador of UPPERCASE, was so very friendly and helpful. She loaded me up with great loot – postcards galore – and gave me the run down of the magazine.
It is published 4x per year and, with the exception of a few select stores locally, it would seem you need to subscribe to get your hands on it. Some might think it a bit pricey, but if you were to split the subscription fee with a friend you would each get to keep 2 issues. As I am sure you won’t want to share!
The magazine has evolved organically by the creative and clearly talented hand of editor Janine Vangool (who was in her “creative zone” getting the next issue completed when I was visiting). So very cool.
Since then, I have been carrying the book everywhere with me, hoping to snag a few more minutes to drool over the pages even if for 5 minutes while I wait to pick up one of the munchkins. It was a huge treat this morning when the house was empty when it was just me, the magazine, and my tea.
Perhaps you are shaking your head in astonishment that anyone would get this google-eyed over a stationery issue of a magazine. But, for me, the simplicity and beauty of something is all that it takes. That’s my pot of gold.
P.S. Check out the card, on the left hand page, with the baby in diaper saying “Good Luck with THAT.” It is by a company that bills itself as “a sassy little greeting card company.” What’s not to love about that tag line!
