Do you remember getting these? These are the letters, emails now, that when you receive it you must be certain to pass along to a designated number of friends or you are sure to perish! Ok, I exaggerate, but not by much. As a kid I always ‘broke the chain’ but not without living with some real fear of my pending doom for a few days.
However, I do absolutely love this literal approach to the chain letter shown here. For how-to directions click here.
So here’s the thing. In the blogging world there is a version of the chain letter. I received two recently. And… I am thrilled!
My lovely new friends, Mo from mocadeaux, and Jean over at sonotorganized, both recently nominated me for a Sunshine Award and Liebster Award respectively. There is no judge or panel that determines who is worthy of such an award. Basically, nominations are made by other bloggers to newer bloggers (that would be me) that they have discovered and like. Lots more info on blogger awards here.
It is fairly simple. As the nominee, you are asked a certain number of questions. The hope is that these questions allow, you the readers, to get to know me a bit better and to have some fun. I am going to choose three from Mo and three from Jean.* Drum roll please!
1. What is your favorite candy?
It’s a toss up between Nibs or Starbursts.
2. Where were you born?
Bracebridge, Ontario, Canada
3. What do you listen to while driving?
I am a CBC radio wonk (that is our national canadian radio station).
4. Do you have a collection?
As a kid I collected spoons (yup, not sure why) and buttons, the kind that had logos or words on them not the ‘button up your coat’ kind. As for currently… does hoarding stationery count as collecting?
5. What is your favorite sound?
Hmm, this is a good one. I would have to say the ocean. Preferably in real life vs holding the sea shell up to my ear.
6. If the Zombie Apocalypse actually did happen, would you go on the move or hunker down in your home and try to wait it out?
Definitely hunker down.
My turn to link the chain to other blogs. You may want to pay a visit to the following six blogs:
3. PrettyPaperThings
* There are officially some unofficial guidelines to this blogger chain letter nomination and they go like this:
1. Acknowledge the person who nominated them:
2. Share 11 random facts about yourself:
3. Answer 11 Liebster questions given to them by the nominator:
4. Nominate 11 other bloggers who have under 200 followers
5. Come up with 11 questions for your nominees.
But, from what I have seen out there, it is quite accepted to ‘have fun’ or take liberty as to how much or how little you participate. As I am all about keeping things simple my questions for my nominees are the same six that I answered. Easy peasy. Just how I like it.
Do you like chain letters or do you view them as an annoying version of spam?
Donna
Hello! I had to come visit you after you left such a delightful comment on mine. I’m so glad that I did. I love your blog. I’m pinning this idea to share. My next card to my parents and my adult children will look like this. Thanks for sharing.
Barb
Hello there Donna, thanks for returning the visit. So glad you enjoyed the idea of the envelope chain letter and thanks for pinning it. I am sure your parents and kids will love it. Hope to see you back here some time soon.
Eileen
What!!???!!!! You were nominated and won an award? So sorry for being so late, CONGRATS!!!! That is great to hear and I am sooo happy for you!
Barb
Eileen, you are so funny and sweet! These awards, although lovely indeed to have, are not set up to lose. Basically you just need to follow the ‘chain letter’ guidelines once you are nominated. Then you can claim it. But really the only way not to ‘win’ is not to play! 🙂 Nevertheless, it does mean people like what they see here at ritewhileucan and that is what matters the most! p.s. you are never late

Congratulations on being nominated for not one, but TWO , blogger awards! Having a beautiful blog pays off!!
As for chain letters, e-mail or otherwise, a big “No thanks!” 🙂
Barb
Thank you, thank you (imagine me taking a bow). A tad silly, yet fun, mostly it is great to know that people are enjoying the blog. I’m right there with you on the chain letters!
Lorraine Reguly
Congratulations on your award! Thanks for linking to my blog, too; I appreciate it!
Barb
Hello there Lorraine, So pleased you dropped in for a visit. Your info on blogging awards was most helpful so it was my pleasure to link up. Hope to see you again soon.
Jean
I loved reading your answers! Thanks for playing along. I would love to be where I could hear the ocean (or near any ocean) but I’m pretty land-locked here in the Midwest. Funny, I seldom played along with “paper” chain letters but somehow the blogging ones don’t bother me. Maybe they are just more fun 😉
Barb
A big fat thank you is floating over to you Jean for nominating me! I think you are right, the blogging version of chain letters are somehow more fun. Talk soon.
Mo at Mocadeaux
I LOVE this! And love how you connected it to your blog’s theme! Brilliant!!! I enjoy finding out more about my new favorite bloggers. Thanks for participating! And, I’m looking forward to visiting those to whom you passed the torch!
Barb
Hey there Mo, Thanks again for nominating me. It was fun putting this together. You are right, it is always fun finding out more about our favorite bloggers.
