A creative approach to learning
A post office in a kindergarten classroom. Are you kidding me? I wish I had Ms.Ieraci for a teacher.
Capitalizing on the magic of sending Valentines, she set up a “Canada Post Dramatic Writing Center” in her classroom. I know. What a clever, creative, and not to mention, super fun approach to learning.
Perfect printing
When I look at this picture above, it reminds me of my elementary school days when, even back then, I was so impressed with the beautifully formed, perfect printing that my teacher had. Clearly Ms.Ieraci takes her printing seriously, as all good teachers should, and inspires the kids to do the same.
Kids discover the charm of snail mail
Ms. Ieraci shared with me that the sending of Valentines has inspired the class to write letters outside the classroom. They deliver mail every morning to the administrative offices, to the Principal and Vice Principal, who of course send a return letter to the class.
I wouldn’t be surprised, as snail mail wields its charm , that the exchange of letters continues beyond February 14th.
An authentic post office
Did you notice the attention to detail in this post office? Canada Post should be proud. Scale, stamps, envelopes, rubber stamps, stationery, and my favorite, an actual replica of a mail box.
Introducing letter writing to kids
As we approach Valentine’s Day this weekend, I can only imagine the fun and anticipation each day this week, as the students in Ms. Ieraci’s class are busy sticking, gluing, printing, and mailing sweet cards in their school. What a fantastic idea for introducing the lost art of letter writing to kids
What is your memory of Kindergarten?
P.S. A big thank you to Ms. Ieraci’s Kindergarten class for sharing their post office with us. We love all your cards and we wish you a full mailbox this Valentine’s Day.

This is a wonderful, inspiring story! Thank you Ms.Ieraci for showing the next generation how to write letters.
As someone who designs, and creates, cards, my hope is that letter writing will continue on. It’s such a personal way to keep in contact with each other. Thanks for writing this Barb!
