A morning of hand lettering
I met Thea Lynn Paul at a writers workshop and found out that she is an artist as well as a writer. After trying our best at following some writing prompts she invited me over for a morning of hand lettering.
Brush strokes captivate
I was mesmerized as I watched Thea dip her brush in ink and using brush strokes form the names of those I was sending mail to that week. We chatted about Thea’s involvement in the Bow Valley Calligraphy Guild, mailboxes, libraries, grand kids, her previous career as a lawyer, writing, and a myriad of other things.
New Library store features local artist children’s book
Speaking of libraries, the brand new Calgary Library opening November the 1st (it is being built upon an active train line – so cool!) is featuring Thea’s children’s book.
‘Ann’ by the letters
I’m not going to say I did most of the talking but I will tell you that Thea did all of the hand lettering.
A couple of years ago I participated in a lettering workshop but for this morning of hand lettering I was content to let the expert do her craft.
A big thank you to Thea for hand lettering so many of my envelopes and for sharing her love of the brush and ink with me. A lovely morning to be sure.

I, too, was so excited to see one of those envelopes in my mailbox! I kept looking at it to see if I could figure out how to re-create it. I’m so not creative in that way. I’m a master at plastering envelopes with washi tape, though! Grin

Melanie, you and me both, queens of the washi tape. 🙂
Ann Davison
I was thrilled to be the lucky recipient of the above hand lettered envelope – it went right into my collection of snail mail mementos! Now if only I could write my own name that well!

I know, Thea is incredibly talented. So glad you loved your envelope.
