Summer is a season of weddings and anniversaries, both full of beautiful and often unique traditions. Janice of Janice Lee Photography and her husband Jase recently celebrated their third anniversary by writing a love letter to one another.
This tradition of writing love letters to one another on their anniversary began when the couple took a drive to the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel. It was an excursion to mark their first year anniversary at the place, where a year earlier, they had held their wedding.
Letters keep the memories alive
Although this destination hotel is indeed magical, it is what these two romantics do once they arrive that makes my heart burst. As Janice shared with me, romantic gestures don’t have to be pre-planned to be charming and meaningful.
The couple didn’t set out to write each other a love letter. It happened spontaneously as they were reliving the memories of a year prior inside the hotel, when Jase disappeared for a minute and came back with paper and suggested the idea.
Cherish one another
The rest is, as they say, history. Every year since, Janice and Jase find their favorite spot, ask the concierge for hotel letter-head and sit in silence and write to one another with coffee in hand.
Janice and Jase give each other the letter in person on the spot as a token of how much they cherish each other. Maybe one year they will choose to mail the letters to each other using the Cutler Mail Chute system found in many of the Fairmont hotels in Western Canada.
How do you celebrate your anniversary or special occasion?
p.s. Thank you to Jase and Janice for allowing me to share their story (and their photos). Happy Anniversary you two!
