Being bored generates my best ideas
This afternoon I was washing the windows (that ranks right up there with ironing as my least favorite, most boring, domestic chore). Disgusting they were. Pudgy finger prints everywhere, lip marks(?), and streaks of some weird white stuff. Yeah, enough said.
But, the thing about this mindless activity, is that I can use this time to think. About whatever. Todays random topic turned out to be ideas.
Where do they come from? Why do some days I have an overabundance and then at other times the well is dry? How do I turn the best of these ideas into action without being overwhelmed? And on and on my mind went until the windows sparkled.

So here are some of the ideas I am working on; the fruits of my boredom today.
1. Project Postcard – getting this off the ground has proven to be challenging. Yet, I am excited about it, so won’t give up.
2. I’ve had the idea of using snail mail to make a difference in my community for quite some time. One idea is the Neighborhood Postcard Project (which I love) and I am in dialogue with a local charity to explore options.
3. Another idea is not to have more than 3 things on my ‘hope-to-do-list’ for any given day. Notice the word ‘hope?’ I’m trying to shift the expectations I have of myself. Ease up a bit.
4. When I get discouraged about lack of interest or movement on an initiative, to stop working on it for that day. Come back to it later.
5. To be intentional about being bored. Really. It is when we can let our minds wander. Who knows what completely amazing ideas may result!
6. Consider that the ordinary, like a door or wall, might not be so ordinary.
7. Did I mention supper ideas? Right, still working on that one. Smile.
I share these ideas with you so that they might generate discussion. Perhaps you have an idea about my idea. Or something related. Or not. Too often we keep our ideas to ourselves and I think we miss out on making, what might be a good idea, even better. I look forward to hearing your ideas.
