What’s in the box?
It’s funny, the circumstances I find myself in. Take for instance this week.
I was at my church at a planning meeting for an upcoming funky, cool summer camp, when doesn’t this lovely woman, Patricia, pop her head in the room with something to show us.
Mail order chicks!
Look at them! All 50 yellow bundles of fluff. So cute.
Call me crazy, but I had no idea you could order a box of real, live, chirping chicks in the mail.
Handle with care
I think I was more excited than the kids at the daycare center next door. I couldn’t wait to show them to you!
In the event you are interested in receiving you own box of chicks contact Miller Hatcheries.
Have you ever mail ordered chicks? Or perhaps something else as equally different yet fun?
Chirp, Chirp….
Eva
That’s just crazy 🙂
Barb
I know! I couldn’t believe it either. chirp.
Stephanie Kay
That is hilarious! I had no idea you could order chicks. That’s for sharing the cuteness via Family Fun Friday.
Barb
I had no idea either Stephanie! So completely crazy to think they survive the trip in a box. Thanks for stopping in.
Cassandra
When we got our tortoise back in ’06, we ordered it from Florida and the breeder mailed him to us in a little deli container!
Barb
Oh my goodness Cassandra, a travelling tortoise by mail! I bet that was adorable too. Long trip? Thanks for sharing this story with us.
Emily @ My Love for Words
Oh my goodness, I had no idea that was possible! My kids would go nuts if they got a box full of chicks in the mail.
Barb
I know!!! Some kind of crazy fun this mail is. Glad you stopped by Emily.
Carrie Groneman
That is SO COOL! Do you raise the chicks to sell when they mature? I raised ‘bummer lambs’ as a girl & teen to earn money for school clothes. They were fun, but smelly. I love that your Church is doing this project together too. Carrie, A Mother’s Shadow
Barb
I couldn’t believe my eyes when the box was opened and there were 50 adorable wee chicks! I have never raised chicks but as a kid I grew up on a farm where we had chickens and I used to collect the eggs…..in my barefeet…..can you believe it?!! so gross. I need to learn more about ‘bummer lambs’ sounds like you were a resourceful kid.
Naomi
Yikes! Aside from cuteness, what do you do with 50 chicks?!
Barb
That’s a great question Naomi. Apparently Patricia has plans to raise them until old enough to….well…you know make a quick trip to the freezer. Yikes!
