I recently read a discussion on the relevance of business cards. It would seem many people, even with all the technology at our disposal, still tend to exchange the tangible, fit in your palm, business card.
Whether you are at home busy with the kiddos, working at the corporate office, running your own business, or hanging at the coffee shop having a contact card proves to be invaluable. I have one for the blog. You can see it later in this post.
Make your design pop
I love this clever twist on an old medium, above, by Soda-Pop Design. The depth of the font on the paper, the whole concept of it being a tag is completely ingenious. Who could forget the person handing those out? Not me.
Think outside the lines
Isn’t this printed tape by lovelystationery some kind of wonderful? It can be applied to basically anything. So clever. Don’t limit your thoughts to the standard look and feel.
Or maybe it isn’t about re-inventing the wheel but instead using one thing —a gift tag— for another purpose. This is what I did using an assortment of gift tags by Rifle Paper Co, like the one pictured below, for my blog card. After the “To:” and “From:” I hand write in the name. On the back I write the blog’s address.
If you would like to receive one of my cards, all you have to do is contact me. I just may send you a little something extra too. The only request I will ask is that you pass along one of my blog cards to a friend.
Seven tips for designing your own business card:
What ever style or medium you choose make sure to consider the following:
1. your card is a reflection of you. your brand. make it uniquely you.
2. if possible, go with eco-friendly recycled paper; some examples of fantastic designs here.
3. in addition to the basics of contact information you may want to consider including a photo of yourself.
4. don’t forget to do something on the back of the card. maybe an alternative color with an eye catching graphic.
5. you need to love your card – don’t settle for less.
6. perhaps a creative shape to your card that reflects your business (see photo below of card by lovelystationery.com)

These business cards are so cute! I really need to design some for my blog and blog community but I’m such a procrastinator
Barb
Indeed, procrastination often gets the better of us. Maybe 2014 is the year you kick to the curb?! 🙂 Thanks for stopping in for a wee hello.
Lydia
I just signed up for my first blogging conference, so I need to order some business cards for the blog! Thanks for these ideas!
Barb
Hello there Lydia, Fantastic place to have some business cards close at hand. I haven’t been to a blogging conference (most seem to be in the USA) but I hear they are fantastic. Enjoy. And, hand out lots of your cards.

Hi, stopping by via Sits ShareFest! 🙂
Have to say I totally agree and love those soda pop cards on the luggage tag style card. I also like the fine cheese one, it’s clever when companies have fun with their logo and brand. For Christmas I received a business card holder for my handbag, but as yet do not have any cards in it for my personal blog – something to think about!
Barb
Hi Vikki, I thought the luggage style cards was very clever and I love the font chosen too. Can’t wait to hear/see what cards you do for your personal blog. Have fun! Thanks for stopping by for a visit.
