DIY – nail polish stationery
I am not a crafty person. Not by a long stretch. So for me to have success (at least to some degree) with this DIY nail polish stationery is saying something. It is a no fuss, no muss idea that you can easily whip off in less than 20 minutes. Plus, you most likely have everything you need already in your house.
Grab a bowl (an old one as the polish will guck it up a bit), fill with water. Pour two (or more) kinds of nail polish in the water and swirl with tooth picks.
Make your own paper or card
Submerge a blank card or piece of paper depending on what you want as your finished stationery. To take the picture I let go of my card, but I recommend that you hold it while it is underwater, that way you can get it out much quicker; two or three seconds is all that is required so that the paper doesn’t actually get soaked through.
Have paper towels ready close by and transfer card, now coloured with the nail polish, onto the paper towel. I walked away for a few hours to come back to find it dry, but that’s just ’cause I had other stuff to do. The drying is pretty quick.
Cheap but beautiful
To make this little DIY project even more economical pick up your nail polish at a dollar store. My almost 18 year old was horrified that I was ‘wasting my nail polish’ in this way (she was in a mood), but she did make me think that I could use cheaper polish next time.
I would recommend using tongs of some sort to dip the card in and out of the water/polish mixture as you can see in the photo above one of my finger prints. Live and learn.
Get creative
The colour combos are really limitless. Have fun and get creative. You could make Birthday party invites, thank you cards, or beautiful paper to write a letter on. I was also thinking it would be cool to try on a card that already has an image or pattern on it; newsprint maybe.
I just love how the pattern that emerges is completely random and beautiful, even the spill over to the inside of the card. Plus, it was so simple. I found this idea via Darling Magazine and thought you might like to give it a try.
Stationery never looked so good
Of course, now comes my favorite part, actually writing a letter. Time to get your craft on this weekend? I think so.
What colours will you use? Have you ever made your own stationery before?

It was easy with beautiful results, the perfect kind of idea in my books. Hope you give it a try. Enjoy.

This is AWESOME!! I DO make my own cards (copying others – nothing original) using rubber stamps and ink. But I’m definitely going to try this. I love the marbled look of the finished product.
Unrelated question/comment: Is there a way to advance to the previous post when you’re reading a post? I get your notification by email and don’t click over to the blog every time. When I do come to the blog, I like to read post after post until I get to ones I’ve previously read. Usually, there is a “next post” or “older posts” button. Just curious……

Hi there Melanie, So glad you liked the nail polish DIY stationery idea. I think I will try with different colours too. Re: blog question, Thanks so much for being interested enough to read more than one of my blog posts 😉 I so appreciate your interest in what I do. My best suggestion is to click, from the menu bar, ‘blog’ which will take you to a thumbnail version of the blog posts and you can scroll through fairly easily. I hope this works for you. Talk soon, and have a great day.
