Canada Post being sued by union representing postal workers
A year ago this month, the price of Canadian stamps increased from 63¢ to $1.00 ( 85¢ if bought in bulk). Along with the price increase to stamps, it was also announced, two years ago, that door-to-door delivery of mail in Canada would be gradually phased out.
Since then there has been a lot of discussion amongst Canadians on the ludicracy of ending home delivery, mostly as it relates to those with mobility issues and seniors. A website has been made Save Canada Post , town hall meetings have been held. And no doubt a few letters have been written.
In fact, as of today, March 4, 2015, the union that represents Canada’s postal workers, has filed a law suit against Canada Post saying that “the cancellation of home mail delivery is unconstitutional and a violation of the Federal Charter of Rights and Freedoms.”
Rick Mercer, a Canadian comedian and political satirist, took on Canada Post in one of his famous rants. Have a look.
What do you think? Should the delivery of mail door-to-door be no more in Canada?
Should you want to support saving door-to-door delivery, here is a petition you can sign.
P.S. Lots more info on the changes to our national postal service that are currently under way can be found in a rant of my own on the topic.
