And the debate continues.
Real tree or fake? Perhaps you can’t imagine the holiday season without the fresh aroma of the pine tree.
Maybe you can’ t imagine spending your time vacuuming up all the needles and so therefore it is a no-brainer – artificial triumphs!
Branch out.
What about the chopping down of trees, the waste, the less than friendly approach to the environment? Of course, to every good argument there is a rebuttal.
We could spend all day going back and forth.
Perhaps to end the raging debate we should all opt for a 3rd option – paper!
1) Seed paper Christmas trees from Plantables and Paper
2) Origami Fir Tree by Francesco Guarnier
3) You need to check out these amazing alternative Christmas trees! They will blow your mind.
I have a question for you. Do you get a real tree for Christmas or an artificial one?
Jill of PJgamers
I’ve only ever had fake trees. So, that’s what we do for my family now. We do, however, pick out completely new decorations each year. We pick 2 colors and a theme and go nuts. It’s fun 🙂

Hi there Jill, I’m dying to know…what 2 colors and theme did you go with this year? I bet your tree looks fantastic! Thanks for stopping in for a visit.

Hi Barb,
Yes It’s fine you can use a pic of my Hanger Card Holder and a link for your series. I’m feature friendly, as long as you only use one pic and not the whole post. Thanks so much! Let me know when you post it and I’m your newest follower!

Barb
Thank you so much Kim! And, yes, I will only post 1 pic and then link back directly to your site for more of the goodness. I appreciate you responding and for the follow. I plan to post mid December (when everyone has started to receive their cards).

I always loved having a live tree when I was a kid… but at the same time, I always cried (and still feel bad) at the idea of killing a tree just so we could decorate it and enjoy it for a few weeks. I was literally a tree hugger! I guess now I would enjoy having a fake tree inside, and I would also love to have a live tree outside that would grow in my yard and that I could decorate at Christmas… it would look so pretty out there in the snow!
Barb
I saw somewhere recently that you can get a potted living tree and that way you can plant it afterwards. Not sure how that works when you live in a region with lots of snow, but love the concept. I appreciate you visiting and leaving a comment. Keep on being a tree hugger!
@Dayngr
Real tree all the way – from picking it out as a holiday tradition, and the lovely smell that fills the house once it is up.
Barb
Real trees are sure hard to beat aren’t they! They offer the whole package and I love it all. Thanks for sharing your ‘vote’ on what type of tree.
Rachel G
I love the wordplay of your title! 🙂 My family always had a fake tree when growing up, so to me, taking the Christmas tree out of its box and fluffing out the individual branches feels as traditional as chopping down a tree in the forest to a real Christmas tree purist! 🙂
Barb
Rachel, quite right you are about the purist is all in the perspective! Enjoy your tree this year. p.s glad you liked the fun title
Rabia @TheLiebers
That shelf is amazing! I have shelves crammed that full of stuff, but it doesn’t look like a Christmas tree!!
Barb
Hi Rabia, I can completely relate to having shelves that look nothing like that tree. Gives me hope though! Ha. Thanks for your visit.

I am terribly allergic to pine and balsam so growing up we always had a fake tree that was silver with blue lights. I thought it was so beautiful back then…lol
When I had kids I wanted them to have real trees so I suffered through years of swollen eyes and exhaustion from benedryl.
Now that the kids are in their own homes we have a slim pre-lit artificial tree that honestly looks so real. It is so easy and I can see and breathe until I visit the kids..
Barb
I remember those silver trees! A friend of mine had one at her house and I thought it was so modern at the time. 🙂 Sounds like you have the perfect solution for your tree now…short visits to the kids maybe? Thanks so much for taking the time to stop in for a visit.

Growing up, we always went to a tree farm and chopped one down. My parents still make an event out of it. But Jamie and I have always done fake. Easier and cheaper. Maybe one day if we have a bigger home we might get a real one but for now we live vicariously through my parents. And buy pine-scented candles (that’s Jamie’s Christmas must-have.).
Barb
I have memories of always having a “Charlie Brown” christmas tree – maybe that’s because us kids got to pick it out – always looked great surrounded by all the other trees! I remember IKEA having real trees for $20 with a purchase. Not sure if they still do that. I completely agree with Jamie’s must-have! Thanks for sharing your tree memories Vanessa!
Julie
Also, I absolutely love the third Christmas tree!!!!!! LOVE IT!
Barb
I know!! Isn’t it extremely cool. I’ve been talking about it all day.
Julie
Hmmm I do use a fake one although I absolutely love the thought of having the smell of a real one! One day 🙂
Barb
Maybe some day a fake tree will be invented that emits the pine scent. A candle I guess could to the trick too. Enjoy your lovely tree.
Kristell
Fake ! Always had one and always will.
Barb
Awesome! Do you have one with the pre-installed lights? I think those are pretty slick.
