Did you know there is a band that goes by the name “The Postal Service?” I didn’t have a clue until I came upon this promotional poster. The band toured this summer and if you look closely at this poster, it lists the details of their tour stops. Notice there is one lonely Canadian stop. I’ll let you find it.
This poster, and there are others, are by Jason Munn designed for the band. I loved how it was so different and just the simple act of turning it on it’s side was brilliant.
Interoffice what?
The band’s tour list reminded me of interoffice envelopes back in the day before email. I actually had to think about what these envelopes were called. I was stumped for a bit. This recollection, brought on by random associations, takes me back to one of my first jobs working in a mail room of a mid sized company. My job was, at certain times of the day, to distribute these interoffice envelopes. Let’s just pause and realize how far from those days we have come. PAUSE.
Right. Well, ever since that time I have always loved these type of envelopes. My favorite thing about them is the way they fasten. Something about that string wrapping around, not one little circular thingy, but two is ingenious.
Delivered to.
Another thing about this style of envelope is the eco-friendly nature of the fastener. You can very easily just slap on a label to cover up the address on the front and re-send. Should you want to make your own envelope, hop on over and see how Jessica at MiniatureRhino made it happen. I love that she used an old file folder —you know the kind —you may have one sitting empty in your filing cabinet you could use.
So, tell me, what is your favorite office supply? Should we dare hope for the re-instatement of interoffice envelopes?

I found you on the link-up. I love this post! I’d forgotten all about those envelopes. When I was a little girl I often had to go to work with my mother in the morning until it was time for the school bus to come and I could entertain myself with those little twisty string clasps for hours! lol

Hi Elizabeth, so happy you found me. Too funny about you amusing yourself for hours with those envelope twisty clasps! what a great story. Thanks for sharing it and stopping in for a visit.

We actually still used interoffice envelopes in the job I left a year and a half ago. We used them for contracts that needed a signature or to send expense reports and receipts. I’m sure they still use them. 🙂 I am a post-it-aholic! My coworkers used to make fun of me about the pile of post-its on my desk. Now that I am a SAHM my husband put some in my Christmas stocking and you can find them in various locations in my housr.

Scarlett, you make me laugh, I am picturing mounds and mounds of post-it-notes everywhere! 🙂 I once stayed over a friends and as a thank you I hid post-it -notes throughout the house with funny little comments. Not sure how long it took for her to find them all. Thanks so much for taking the time to leave a comment and visit my blog. Hope to see you again real soon.

I remember using these in my school district. We used them to send letters to other schools and the district office. We still did even in 2010 when we had to send copy of invoices and orders to the financial department. 🙂 They are still in use now I am sure.

I love office supplies and fondly remember the inter-office envelope. And memo. Not sure which is my favorite but I’m a fan of paper and pads in general. And purple pens. Thanks for sharing with us at #LOBS!
Barb
And the memo! yes, I remember that too. Purple pens make a statement. I like that. Thanks for hosting #LOBS and for stopping in for a visit Kristen.
