Tickets available first come, first serve, via snail mail
This July, 2015, in Chicago, there is a major musical event happening. The Grateful Dead surviving band members will play a concert to mark the 50th anniversary of the band.
Dead Heads (as true fans of the band are referred to) are legendary for their loyalty and devotion to the music. The fact that the band announced this concert caused orgasmic like frenzy among the masses.
Tickets were first available only by mail. You can imagine the line ups at the postoffice! It was only after a certain date that additional tickets were released online.
Fan mail to a whole other level
In keeping with tradition, fans were invited to submit, after following very specific instructions, a mail order request for tickets and any fan who decorated their envelope was entered into a contest to win free tickets. The top three designs will become ticket artwork.
In what is reminiscent of finding the ‘Golden Ticket’ in Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, fans of the band eagerly awaited a letter back in which they hoped to find the coveted tickets.
Out of over 60,000 pieces of mail requesting tickets, here are but a few of the envelope submissions:
