The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society Movie
Don’t let that mouthful of a title stand in your way of going to the cinema when this film comes to Canada. The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society is one of my favorite books ever. In fact, I’m about to re-read it.
The film was released in the UK on April 20th and I have it on good authority (from my lovely letter writing pal who lives on the island of Guernsey and has seen the film) that the film is outstanding.
The story, written by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows, is a tale of the island of Guernsey during the German occupation. It is about how an eccentric book club takes root and begins to exchange letters with a writer.
No date yet for release in Canada
Netflix is set to debut the film in North America but no release dates have been confirmed. Best bet is to follow the film on Instagram for the latest release info. I’m so jealous of my UK friends.
Have you read the book? Will you re-read it?
p.s. Random tidbit of interest: the movie itself wasn’t actually shot on Guernsey but in the South West area of England.

I hope it comes to Canada soon! I think I’m due a re-read and after seeing the movie my husband now plans to read the book too. 🙂

I hope so too, Jessica! Thanks for the scoop on the movie after you saw it. It is yet another reason why I must come visit.
Chrissy
LOVED the book and can’t wait to see the movie! Thanks for keeping us on top of things!
Barb
Me too, Chrissy! I’m hoping to keep track and update with a ‘projected’ date for coming to Canada/USA.

Yup, read it with our book club last year and we are also anticipating the movie!
Barb
What a great read for a book club; how suitable. Perhaps you had your own unique food tradition 🙂
