There is something about a package.
I went to mail a package the other day. It was around mid day. Mid week. Pretty routine for me. I rounded the corner at my local postal outlet to find a long line up. Yes, a line up. What does this tell me? Well, without reading too much into my very unscientific observation, it tells me that people still mail things.
What’s inside?
I was mailing a package. A birthday package. I found these amazing, striped, multicoloured bubble envelopes from my local dollar store that were just perfect for this purpose.
Did you ever get a package that you just left on the counter for a few days until you felt like opening it? No. I didn’t think so. Packages just cry out to be opened in a flurry of excitement.
I remember in my university days to receive a ‘care package’ from home was like gold. All the other students looking on in the common room, big sad eyes watching, dying to know what was in the package. The home-made chocolate chip cookies always took the prize! For ideas on what to include in a care package for a college student visit my tips page.
And the package goes to…
The thing about packages is that they take letters to then next level. No denying that a handwritten note says you care enough to take the time to write, but a package, a package takes it to the top spot on the podium of giving. And, that my friends, is really the whole point. You are giving.
Here are some—perhaps unexpected—suggestions of those to whom you could send a package:
*your neigbour who has been off work for awhile
*the kid’s teacher (for no rhyme or reason)
*that babysitter who is now off at college
*the local woman’s shelter
*your mom
Today I am gushing over the work of Anastasia Marie. These ‘oh happy day’ boxes would be the ultimate container for the perfect parcel for a skier (or anyone who loves to spend time outdoors in the winter). Here is what you could put in the box:
*envelopes of hot chocolate
*hand and foot warmers
*chap stick
*granola bar
*cute package of kleenex
*pen (you never know)
Who else could you send a care package to? What goodies would you enclose?

I LOVE pretty packaging! My favorite crafts are handmade cards and care packages. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I’m headed over to Facebook to follow you! Have a great night!

Hi Katie, Thanks for taking the time to come and visit. I too love creative packaging. I am using old maps to wrap christmas gifts this year. Look forward to seeing you over on FB.

I love this post! It reminds me of when my kids were in college and I would send silly little things to them. Occasionally I have sent packages “just because” to friends and family but have gotten out of the habit recently. You have really put me in the mood to start up again! I find great, inexpensive things at World Market. They have lots of unusual food items in small or single servings, cute little toys and decorations and great greeting cards.

Hey there Mo, Sounds like your packages would have been a delight to receive! Glad you have a renewed interest in sending someone a parcel. I will have to investigate World Market as I am not familiar with this shop, but by the sounds of it, I would love it. Enjoyed our chat.

Oh, I love packages. I even get excited about those free samples that come in boxes. There is something about them. You have me thinking about who I might need to surprise with a mailed package. Thanks for the idea 🙂

Good Friday to you Jean, I too always love getting a package! Can’t wait to tear it open. But, I also love preparing the package, probably just as much if not more than receiving. Isn’t that how it works. Whoever is on the receiving end of your surprise package will be thrilled no doubt! let me hear all about it. 🙂
