Santa’s Letterbox
“Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus…” begins the response to the famous letter written to the editor of the New York Sun in 1897 by 8 year old Virginia O’Hanlon asking if Santa truly exists.
Writing a letter to Santa Claus is as much part of Christmas tradition as the tree.
Macy’s in the USA has a fantastic website for kids to create letters for Santa and then ‘post’ them in Santa Letterboxes at various locations.

Let’s not waste any more time, the days on the calendar are passing way too quickly now. Some things to consider, parents, before embarking on this ritual of innocence and hope:
1) Santa is multi-lingual so your child can write a letter in any language and receive a response back in the same language.
2) No postage necessary, as Canada Post explains, “Santa would never refuse a letter because it didn’t have a stamp on it.”
3)Address: Santa Claus, North Pole, HOH OHO Canada (I have heard that you can use this address outside of Canada—you may want to double check that the no-postage still applies out of country— and you will get a reply back)
4) Remember to include a return address so you can hear back from Santa.
North Pole Delivery
5) If you are a teacher the elves request you send your classroom letters by DECEMBER 3rd, so that your kiddies hear back before the big day.
6) Mom and Dad, make sure all other letters are sent to the North Pole by DECEMBER 17th.
7) If you run out of time, or because Santa is pretty tech savvy these days, you can choose to email your letter ( this site includes some fun graphics and interactive stuff for kids)
8) Don’t forget about Mrs. Claus. I’m sure she would love to hear from you. In fact, when you receive your letter back, Mrs. Claus is on the stamp!
Did you ever write to Santa? What was on your wish list?

This is fun.
I wonder if my kids would want to.
I know for sure they’d love to list all their hearts desire though 🙂

Hi Colette, So nice of you to stop by for a visit. It is fun, isn’t it?! I do hope your kids give it a try – you will just need to see what some of those hearts desires are before they put it in the mail! 🙂
