International typewriter day—June 23
Of course, you already know I have a thing for typewriters, but did you know that there is such a thing as International Typewriter Day?
Yes, it is a delightful truth. And to celebrate I thought I would share with you a very cool thing happening called The Typewriter Project.
Pop-up typewriter booths
Popping up at different public venues in New York City, these ‘typewriter booths’ are quite a statement. Curiosity compels passersby to investigate and before you can type zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzip, people are giving it a go.
The purpose of the project is to “investigate, document and preserve the poetic subconscious of the city while providing a fun and interactive means for the public to engage with the written word.”
Electronic storage of typewritten notes in real time
Of course you don’t have to be a professional poet to make those keys work, in fact the hope is that anyone and everyone will add to the ever growing collection of typewritten notes.
One of my favorite things about this project is that the typewriters are fitted with the techno ability to capture, store and share every keystroke online in real time. Check it out.
What would you write?
A special thank-you to The Typewriter Project for allowing me to share their story and their photos with you. If you are in the New York area, I know they would love to have you step into a typewriter booth and type to your hearts desire.
And even if you don’t have a typewriter, I hope you will be inspired by the creativity, the words captured and the uniqueness of the typewriter booth. Happy International Typewriter Day!
p.s. If you stumbled upon a typewriter booth, would you step inside and type something? What would you say?

I LOVE a typewriter too, but just realized I don’t have one! I’ll be on the look out now…he he I had NO idea it was national typewriter day! I’m not near NY of I’d pop in 🙂

Perhaps you will put it on your ‘wish list’ for some special occasion. You and me both would be all over the NYC typewriter booth!

Barb, I love that you sent me a typewritten note. Thanks so much! We do have a typewriter, but it is an electric. Hubby uses it a lot. I’m a pen and paper gal. Thanks for sharing these interesting stories.

So glad you received my wee note. Even more impressed that you could decipher it! So, what does the hubby use your electronic typewriter for? Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to read my ramblings.
