Are you wondering if you can still send mail or how to get postage stamps?
Or maybe you are curious about whether the Covid-19 virus can be transmitted through the mail?
Perhaps you want to know if all countries are still accepting international mail?
Thank you to all the postal workers!
Some of these questions came up last week in the virutal letter writing social. Let’s find out the answers:
- Yes, you can still send mail. A big shout out and thanks to all the postal workers everywhere who are out and delivering the mail. Thank you! What does seem to be apparent is that with the increase in online shopping deliveries may be slower than usual.
- Stamps can be purchased online via Canada Post or through your respective Postal System.
Mail service has been suspended to certain countries
3. According to the World Health Organization, ‘because of poor survivability of coronaviruses on surfaces, there is a low risk of spread from products or packaging shipped over a period of days or weeks. Currently, there is no evidence of COVID-19 being transmitted by imported goods or packages.’
4. Postal service to some countries has been suspended, consult here for a full list of which countries are impacted.
Are you still sending mail?
Kari
I’ve been putting my email address in my letters just in case some international pen friends are experiencing delivery delays. I know that an email cannot replace a hand written letter, but an email still serves as communication, a connection between friends. For now, for some, it is better than nothing.
Barb
Hey Kari, that is a brilliant idea about putting your email address in letters. Absolutely brilliant. Of course we both agree about the written letter being irreplaceable in terms of delighting others, but these days an email may have to suffice. Thanks for this idea.

As of right now, we in the United States are still getting and sending mail. Thank goodness, because it’s more important than ever to connect right now. We’re all in the same boat, so why not brighten someone’s day with a handwritten note or card, especially to those who live alone?
Barb
I completely agree, Roseanne. No time like those we are living in to send some snail mail to connect with others and bring some cheer to someone. Here in Canada too, the mail is still moving along. So thankful to CanadaPost for this.
