Lavender farm with a mailbox
You know me. I can spot a mailbox from a mile away. It was while I was enjoying the incredible views at Okanagan Lavender & Herb Farm that I noticed it.
Perched high above the beautiful fields of lavender, with a view of Okanagan Lake, the mailbox invites passersby to purchase a postcard (of course I did) pop it in the mailbox and the lovely people at the farm will mail it for you, stamp included.
A magical place
It was a bit of a magical place, this lavender farm with a mailbox. There are walking paths amongst the flowers, including roses, water lilies, and many herbs. The aroma was like none other, with bees a-buzzing doing their work.
Below is a picture I took in a restored tool shed of sorts that has information on all the herbs grown at the farm and some antique farm tools, including a vintage typewriter. As if I didn’t love the place enough already!
Workshops, recipes, lavender products are all available at the farm
With your $10 ticket price per person to visit the family run farm you are given a sachet of lavender and herbs. I’ve already tried the lavender and lemon balm loaf mix recipe and it is outstanding. So freak’n good!
If you are looking for things to do in Kelowna (British Columbia) this summer, I would highly recommend it. On September 7, 2018 there is even an Introduction to Calligraphy Workshop. Maybe I should finagle my way there so I can attend this event.
Do you like lavender? Would you like one of my postcards?
Leave a comment below and I will send one lucky person my last lavender postcard. Name to be drawn July 14th, 2018.
Amy Thompson
I just recently stumbled across your blog, and was delighted to see this post today. I grew up in the Okanogan–but on the south side of the border. So the area is familiar and delightful, just like lavender. I enjoy lavender, but I love getting mail even more!
Barb
Well hello there, Amy! Thrilled to here your recent stumble led you to my blog. 😉 So wonderful that you grew up in such a beautiful area. It was my first time visiting the Okanogan and it won’t be my last. Thanks for leaving me a comment and your name will go into a draw for the postcard. p.s. mail, then lavender, in that order…I agree.
Cathy
I just learned from a friend traveling in Provence, there are 2 types of lavender….fine & hybrid. Either way, I love the scent. What a great idea for this farm to have postcards to send. Too often, I buy postcards, but don’t get them sent in a timely manner – having the cards/stamps/box all in 1 place would eliminate that problem. Put my name in the drawing, please.
Barb
Hello Cathy, Yes, I learned quite a bit about lavender too from my visit to this farm. Who knew? I completely agree with the brilliance of having mailbox on site, so convenient and awesome for us ‘prone-to-forget’ postcard senders. Your name now in the draw. 🙂
Roseanne Felago
Lavender is such a clean and lovely scent. I went once to a lavender farm on Long Island (Lavender by the Bay) and loved it. Would love to get your postcard!
Barb
Roseanne, thank you for sharing about your visit to another Lavender farm. Are they all so magical and beautiful? Consider your name entered into the draw. 🙂
Barb
Hi Roseanne, Congrats to you. Your name was drawn to receive the postcard! Please send me your mailing address to ritewhileucan@gmail.com Can’t wait to send it to you. 🙂
Denise
Hi Barb. Congratulations on joining up with Beautycounter! Before our pen pal program next month at our library, we have someone in July to teach Modern Calligraphy 101 and she is an educator and advocate of Beautycounter too. Did you know it has been 80 years since the Food, Drug and Cosmetics Act was passed here in America?! It has made me much more aware of what I purchase and I look forward to hearing what you think of their products.
Happy Summer!
Denise
P.S. I love lavender and would love a postcard:)
Barb
Denise, our common interests/connections intersect again. 🙂 I did know that stat and I am blown away by it. One of the reasons I joined the Beauty Counter movement for sure. The loaf recipe from the farm that included their dried lavender and lemon balm was to die for! Your name will be included in the draw to take place Sat July 14th. Happy Summer to you too.
Sharon
Lavender has always been one of my favorite. I knew there were a lot of different lavender plants, just because of all the varieties I see sold in the marketplace; and a few years ago I realized that “a lot” was not a correct count! I love it for the garden, for the home, crafts/decorating, and the culinary kind. I will put the Okanagan Lavender Farm on my bucket list, for sure!
Barb
Hi there Sharon, A visit to this lavender farm is worthy of your bucket list. Maybe you will even mail a postcard? Thanks for leaving a comment and by doing so your name is now entered into the draw.
Nancy Hoefer
Lavender is my favorite scent. My Grandmother introduced me to it years ago. Not only is it a scent, it is a feeling. I would love your last post card. And I’d love to go to the Okanagan Lavender and Herb Farm!
Barb
You and I share have the same favorite scent, Nancy. 🙂 Does your Grandmother use it for anything in particular? I hope you have the opportunity to visit this farm one day. Your name will be in the draw this coming weekend, July 14th.
