You are invited to a letter writing social
In less than two weeks you will find me downtown Calgary at one of my favorite Inglewood shops called ReWorks Upcycle Shop.
Solita, the owner of the shop, and I are combining creative forces to introduce people to the lost art of letter writing in a hands-on, pen-to-paper kind of way.
I will be there with typewriters in hand, stationery supplies (more on this below), and enough letter writing enthusiasm to last the afternoon.
Upcycled envelopes and more
In keeping with the theme and philosophy of recycled materials, I have been busy making envelopes out of maps, old calendars, and wrapping paper. Postcards will be made from old greeting cards and record album covers. The postal stamps will be vintage stamps, out of circulation, but still usable so that nothing goes to waste.
If you are local, I invite you to join us on Saturday, July 25 at 1:00pm. Space is limited so please call the shop (number above) to register.I can’t wait to meet you over a glass of wine and a typewriter.
Sadly, I realize many of you are too far away to participate, but drop me a note and I would be happy to send you out one of these envelopes.
What would be your pick —the postcard, the thank you card, or the traditional letter? Maybe all three?
Melanie
SO wish I could attend this. And, you’ve helped remind me to get my vintage typewriter to the typewriter hospital for a tuneup. A side note…..(for Sydney – above)….I’m on track to meet (or possibly exceed) my annual goal of 365 pieces of snail mail sent in 2015. I’m loving this!!

My beauty of a typewriter just got out of the ‘typewriter hospital.’ Working much better now, still a couple of little glitches, but that’s part of her charm so I’m leaving as is for now. I was thrilled to even find someone who could repair it. The most interesting little shop, but that’s a story for another time. 🙂

Oh happy day Barb! Sounds like a fun evening! What could be better that a social of letter writing! I’m jealous I can’t be there!
How exciting that you & Solita are working together to introduce people to the lost art of letter writing – come on….hands-on people!!!

Thanks for your encouragement Sydney! I wish you could be there too. 🙂
