Promise of…everything
You may remember these crazy ads found in comic books from the 1970’s and 80’s. I picked up a few vintage comic books recently and used them for stocking stuffers this past Christmas.
Flipping through the newsprint pages of the Buck Rogers, the Beagle Boys and of course Archie’s, I’ve been laughing my head off at remembering how much I wanted the sea monkeys!
“Add 50¢ for postage and handling.”
You could order everything from onion gum, toy roman soldiers, apache arrowheads, snippys (cartoon scissors), secret agent pens, talking teeth. To a kid, this was like heaven. Seriously.
One could spend endless amounts of time and energy trying to figure out how to scrounge up the $1.25, plus postage. All the time dreaming of that family of sea monkeys that would dance to music.
“It’s fun!!”
I love how the ad for ‘super’ iron-ons implores kids to involve Mom in the the actual ironing. I mean, what are the chances the kids are even letting Mom know they are sending their collection of pilfered coins to some sketchy post box address with some vague name at the top? Not me.
I love that Shaun Jacket iron-on, by the way. Dreamy.
Posters gallore
Look at these posters! Immediately I go the Bee Gees and Willie Aames (I loved the show Eight is Enough). You?
How many of you actually tore out the page of the comic book and mailed it away for some promised toy, treasure or gadget? Do tell.

So many great memories all in one! I so wanted those sea monkeys! And I loved Eight is Enough! What about David Cassidy? — my personal fave! I don’t remember ordering anything but I always filled out the order information :). Thanks for the blast from the past!

Ohhhh, David Cassidy, I’m sure he had a few posters back in the day. So fun to remember these funny things you could order through the mail. Perhaps you will still get those Sea Monkeys one day. ha. Thanks for your comment Glenda.

What a great blast of nostalgia. I remember Sea Monkeys so clearly. I don’t think I ever sent off for them, but I think one of my friends did and they were disappointing. They were just flash-dried brine shrimp that died pretty quickly. But I remember all the Tiger Beat Magazines, Archies comics and all those adorable boy posters. #SITSSharefest

Hello there Adrian, so fun that you remember hearing what those Sea Monkeys actually were. I had no idea. I still have tons of Archie comics floating around the house. My kids have discovered them now, so long live Archie! So nice of you to stop in for a visit. Have a lovely week.

I sure mailed away for ‘stuff’ and can I just say that I have the Bee Gee’s CD playing in my ‘mini van!’ this week!
Barb
Oh.my.goodness. Sydney, you are awesome! Bee Gee’s booming in the minivan (this made me smile out loud). I wonder what’s on your play list this week? 🙂
