What was in my mailbox this week. No. 10
The latest installment in the series What was in my mailbox this week does not disappoint. Come to think of it, this isn’t even possible is it. Snail mail, the real kind, not junk mail or bills, never disappoints.
Where do you write your letters?
The envelope you see in the first photo with the sweet girl holding an envelope was created by the very talented Katherine of Plan Cultivate Create. As Katherine reminded me, it was National Letter Writing Month 2017 that we first started exchanging letters. Every letter since has been chalk full of creativity and wonder.
The fact that Katherine makes mention that she is writing this most recent letter on the train got me thinking. Provided you have some paper and a pen you can really write a letter anywhere.
Upcycle to make your own envelopes
It was at one of my Letter Writing Socials that I met Liz. She brought her own supplies. Clearly a die-hard fan of all things snail mail! I especially love how she made her envelope from a page of a magazine.
I have upcycled envelopes from old maps, calendars and wrapping paper. Using an old envelope to trace the pattern works well, but you can also opt to buy a template .
Signing off…
Doug from Maryland, USA, signs his letters with a “postally yours.” Isn’t that perfect! As a member of Letter Writers Alliance Doug has access to some very cool stationery options; that traditional airmail insignia is so timeless.
The closing of a letter is wide open for creativity. Here are some of my favorites: Talk soon, Lovely to chat, Miss you, Warm regards.
How do you close your letter?
p.s. Thank you Liz, Katherine, Doug and Cathy (see my Facebook page for Cathy’s letter) for writing. Keep an eye on your mailbox for your return letter.
Eva
First time I read “Postally yours” at the end of a letter was from Postmuse, who later even changed the name of her blog to “Postally Yours” (not updated any more). I usually close with “Have a bright day” or, to my closest friends, “Kisses”.
Barb
Love your closing options, Eva. Especially ‘have a bright day.’ I wish you the same. 🙂
Kari
I close my letters with “Smiles and Stamps,” or, “Letters and Laughter.”
Cathy
Today’s letter was closed with: ‘Ack! I hear the mail truck on the next block….gotta get this in the box!’ My normal closure is ‘until next time’
Barb
Hilarious, Cathy! I like this idea of referencing ‘real time’ sign off. Mine tonight will be, “I can barely stay awake, but wanted to write.” ha!
Barb
Kari, so clever and cute, your options of closing your letters. And I mean this in the most complementary way possible (some times cute is an over used word and takes on less than positive vibe). I should try something like, ‘ink spots and all…’
