I love reading the newspaper. I wish I had more time to do it, but whenever I do, I read it hard copy, newsprint to finger tip.
In fact, there is a particular method to my madness, in that I like to read the paper in a certain way. Certain sections by a certain order. Yes, a bit crazy, I know! I always read the front page and first section first. Followed by the Life, Style and then Business sections. I want to know what’s going on in the larger world. I hope to learn something everyday.
And what about when cutting out newspaper clippings was done with regularity? Of course, this was before Internet. But, when you stumble upon the yellowing clippings in some long lost forgotten shoe box, you can’t escape the feeling of nostaglia.
The landscape of publishing newspapers is changing. Some would say that the change itself is necessary for survival. There has been much said as of late about the state of newspapers and whether they are a dying dinosaur slowing walking the path of extinction. It does appear that newspapers have become much more savvy in terms of social media and engaging readers through multiple mediums. No longer can they survive with just a print edition.
If you always wanted to be a journalist for a newspaper you might want to check out Newscastic. This is a site that feels that the newspaper model is inefficient and has opened up online. Journalists, and others, can browse writing assignments and submit stories. Interesting concept.

I remember going to a mother/daughter camp a few years ago and one of the activites, which the girls went crazy for, was a fashion design competition. Yes, you guessed right, the materials were newspaper and tape. This chic little number above is another thing completely, but some of the creations the girls came up with were so creative. Did I mention the mom’s had to be the models? 🙂
Hey now, there’s a summer idea for you. Gather all those neighborhood kids that show up on your doorstep each day and hold a newspaper design competition and see what beauties result. In the meantime here are 10 ways to reuse newspaper.
So, when and if you read the newspaper, do you do so on your smartphone, your Ipad, home computer or do you like that newsprint between your fingertips? Write back and let us know.

I really like to read the newspaper in print but my husband prefers the on-line method so we recently stopped getting it. I sure miss it as I find I don’t sit down to read the actual news on-line like I would the actual paper.

Hi Jean, thanks for stopping by for a visit. would love to offer you some coffee with your morning paper; online or print verion! I think because the online version isn’t sitting on the counter we don’t tend to go and turn on the computer. I am like this too. I have my daily, national newspaper that I read in hard copy, but do check on a few others online and I find it is easy to forget to check them online. Have a great day.
