Drink the potion
Like Alice in Wonderland you can feel like you’ve drunk the potion and entered another, often mysterious world, when you read a book. Books are some of my favorite things.
But books are only a smattering of words on a page unless they make us think, unless they impact our lives, unless we take action based on what we read.
Sometimes this is very deliberate and other times the impact is more organic. Either way it can be profound. A book can be so much more than just a book.

So much more than just a book
Incorporating the ideas we read into our everyday lives is the crux behind Actionable Books.com I have recently joined this very cool company as part of their book review club for 2014. As part of the gig (for which I don’t get paid) I have agreed to read a current business or leadership book every month and write a review on the book.

Right now, in addition to the books I am reading for Actionable, below is a list that I am working on in my ‘spare’ time when my eyelids don’t droop shut. I highly recommend them.
1. Crazy Love by Francis Chan
2. Shake Hands with the Devil by Roméo Dallaire
3. Longbourn by Jo Baker
4. Bread and Wine by Shauna Niequist
If you have a hard time parting with your books, recycle your books and put them into action in a different way, as a mail or photo holder. Take a peek here to see what I mean. Love, love this idea!
Have you read any good books lately?
Victoria @ Creative Home Keeper
Thanks for linking this up to Book Notes. You are so true when you say that a book is so much more than a book. Books can fill us with so many memories, experiences, and emotions. I too have Bread and Wine on my reading list, I’m anxiously awaiting for my library number to come up!
Barb
Hi Victoria, So nice of you to stop in and say ‘hello.’ I hope you enjoy Bread and Wine as much as I did. I refer to it all the time.
Tanya @ Mom's Small Victories
Thanks for linking your post up with my Small Victories Sunday link. I couldn’t agree with you more when you said, “But books are only a smattering of words on a page unless they make us think, unless they impact our lives, unless we take action based on what we read.” When I write my book reviews, that’s what I strive to describe to my readers. Thanks for letting me know about Actionable books, sounds like worthwhile books to read. I am working on this week’s linky now, so hope you stop back by and link up more posts with our Small Victories Sunday linky. Great to have another book lover link up, I would love for you to share some of your book reviews. Remember you can link up to 3 posts! Pinning this to our Small Victories Sunday Awesomeness board.

Hello there Tanya, I really liked the concept of chronicling your small victories each week. Reality that inspires. I like that. So many good books out there, aren’t there?! Thanks for suggestion to link up some of my book reviews too. I will be back to visit. Thanks for taking the time to pop by and visit. Happy reading!
Jessica
I haven’t sat down and read a good fiction book since I had my first baby three years ago. But now that my youngest is one, I’m very much looking forward to reading before going to bed and getting lost in another world. I love, love, love reading.
Barb
I hear you Jessica.I remember those days and have memories of trying to read while using a breast pump. Yeah, that didn’t go so well! I hope for you that you can carve out a few precious minutes just for you and a good book. Happy reading and thanks for stopping in for a visit.

Delighted to have you onboard with Actionable, Barb! Love the “additional” reading goals as well.
I recently started Scaling Up Excellence, by Bob Sutton & Huggy Rao – highly recommend for anyone looking to grow their business (or an arm of it)
