Ottawa Winterlude in cards
Snow, winter and Canada are often words used in the same sentence. While we Canadians may grumble about the long below-zero season, we also choose to embrace it.
Ottawa artist Jessica Fleury captures the annual Ottawa Winterlude in cards. This winter festival just opened yesterday and runs through February 20, 2017.
Skating and beavertails
It has been several years since I skated on the Rideau Canal but it is definitely one of those iconic Canadian moments. In fact, the experience is included in 150 things to do to celebrate Canada’s 150th Birthday this year.
I absolutely loved it, especially when followed up by eating a sweet, warm pastry, fondly referred to as the ‘beavertail.’
Letter writing is a perfect winter-time activity
I picked up these beautiful cards when I was visiting Ottawa last November and was immediately drawn to the vibrant colours and how the people are depicted in the wintry scenes.
After coming inside from a brisk skate or walk outside, sitting down with a cup of hot chocolate and writing a letter, has all the makings of a perfect winter afternoon in my books.
