I love summer. I mean who doesn’t? Summers make me nostalgic for some reason. I want the summers to be like they used to be. Running free. Riding bikes. Scavenging for coins to go to the corner store to buy Fun Dip. Getting dirty. Showing up for food and back out again. Making forts.
Another one of my best summer memories is my mom making homemade popsicles. To tell the truth I have a hate on right now for the non-stop drive by of my local ice cream truck! You know, the one that plays the creepy, off season (I heard a Christmas song the other day), loud jingles as it drives on your street. Well, to combat this summer time pied piper, I am going to try out several of these very cool Popsicle recipes . From the photos alone I think my favorite will be the “Banana Cream Pie-sicles.”
When I think of summer I also think of birthdays. So many June birthdays in my circle of family/friends. Swimming in the lake after eating cake. Spending the whole day in your bathing suit as you muck about. Climbing trees. Funny, I don’t remember the rainy days, but I am sure there must have been some.
I love the look of a kite flying in the sky more than actually flying them. Maybe it is the sense of freedom imagined way up there. The rainbow of colors floating around. The whistle and flapping of the kite tales.
Isn’t summer grand!
P.S. What was your favorite summer time candy as a kid?

This brought back some great memories!! I think my favorite memory was walking with my friends to a roller skating rink…the good ol days!! Thanks for linking us with us at the Ladies Only Blog Share! Following you now!

Hi Michelle, roller skating?! wow, this was something I never tried, but it always looked like so much fun. So glad you dropped by. Hope your summer is wonderful!

Growing up in the 70’s my favourite candies were Koo koos, Wig wags, Bottlecaps and Tangy taffy!
Just the thought of it reminds me of when my Dad would take us to the local park and then afterwards give us each a dollar to buy candy at the variety store. What a treat! That dollar went a long way and we’d each walk out with a treasured little brown bag full of deliciousness.

Lisa, I forgot about those little brown bags! Tangy taffy…to die for. What a great memory with your Dad too. So are you running out right now to buy a Koo Koo? 🙂
