Send mail to youth of Attawapiskat
Earlier this month eleven young people, in the community of Attawapiskat, attempted suicide in one day. This has rocked our country and has prompted many people to wonder what can be done. A project has been started to send mail to youth of Attawapiskat that everyone can participate in.
What circumstances, what dire conditions, what wounded hearts would cause a group of young people to attempt suicide?
Chelsea Jane Edwards, who grew up in Attawapiskat, doesn’t have all the answers but as she shares in an interview with CBC radio, she still has hope for the youth and believes that the simplest things can make a big difference. She is involved in this letter writing project that asks people to send encouraging mail to the youth of Attawapisat.
Put pen to paper and show that you care
A letter or a postcard are simple things. But some times it is the simple that can have profound impact. When someone takes the time to put pen to paper and write some words of encouragement, a postcard can be a delivery of hope. It shows that someone cares. And maybe, it will be just the dose of sunshine that can begin to mend the hearts of the youth in Attawapiskat.
Will you join me in sending some encouraging mail to the youth in Attawapiskat?

The address you gave is for the band office. Many band councils are corrupt and I would wonder if anything I sent would really get to the people it is meant for. The best and safest place to send things to the “Youth of Attawapiskat” would probably be to the social workers in the community. They would know which people need your messages and packages the most and would be more likely to be impartial in distributing them. Their mailing address is Payukotayno Family Services/ General Delivery/ Attawapiskat, Ont./ P0L 1A0

Hi Charlotte, I’m so glad you left this comment. Thank you for the alternative mail address option. This campaign (and address) that I’ve posted here does not originate with me, I am just sharing in hopes that people will be moved to send some mail to the youth in Attawapiskat. Thanks again for your input and visiting the blog.
