It’s Canadian Thanksgiving this weekend. One of my favorite holidays of the year. But there’s one thing I won’t do…
Thanksgiving or Halloween?
I won’t decorate for Halloween. I’m not a fan. Now, right away I’ve probably offended 1/2 of you, but I just don’t like all those dead arms and tombstones poking up from the front lawn.
My kids ask (beg) me every year to decorate the house for Halloween. I tend to employ the strategy of down right ignoring or what I call the ‘switch-and-bait’ method. This is where I cleverly change the subject as my response. Ha! It gets harder as they get older, but I’m hold’n tight. No goulish, blood dripping spider webs happening at this girls house.
Thanksgiving, however is another thing completely (and don’t even get me started on why Halloween decorations are plastered everywhere before Thanksgiving is over). I love the Fall and I loved this idea of stringing leaves with photos by Tea On The Moon. I was thinking you could also use Fall inspired cards or quotes as a simple way to bring the outdoors in AND to remind us all that we have to be Thankful for.

So, do you decorate for Halloween or Thanksgiving?
P.S. Don’t forget to join the #ThankfulMail challenge this month. Such a meaningful way to thank those who are special to us or perhaps even a random stranger.

Hope you had a nice holiday! Since Thanksgiving comes after Halloween in the states, I just decorate generically for fall and keep it up through Thanksgiving. The few jack-o-lanterns I do have, I take down after Halloween and that’s when I put up the pilgrims and turkeys. I’m like you, though. Not a big fan of ghosts, ghouls, and goblins.

Hello there friend, I did enjoy our Canadian Thanksgiving…as the empty pumpkin pie plate will attest to! Love your approach to Fall decorating as Thanksgiving comes after Halloween for you. Makes a lot of sense. And I like the jack-o-lanterns instead of the creepies too. I appreciate you sharing your thoughts on this.

I don’t decorate for either. Now that I think about it, I believe it is because I was raised in France and don’t celebrate either Halloween or Thanksgiving.
My kiddies asked for Halloween decoration in the past but really I am not really enthoutastic about it I am all about Christmas.
Talking about Christmas I found that great idea on facebook for Event calendar “gift” https://www.facebook.com/763538187025928/photos/a.763613730351707.1073741828.763538187025928/771719646207782/?type=1&theater
Was it on your facebook page? (I am having a day so it is quite possible)

I had no idea that Halloween and Thanksgiving are not holidays in France. Thanks for educating me Kris, I always love when I learn new things. I need to hear more about what you do at Christmas as I’m guessing you have a lot of fun with it. That idea about wrapping up 25 children’s books for December is fantastic! I may have to try that. Thanks for sharing it as it wasn’t my FB page….and it is nice to know I’m not the only one that has ‘those days.’ 🙂 Thanks for stopping by for a chat.

We do decorate for Halloween but I try to keep our Halloween decorations things that are easy to switch out for a fall theme after the holiday that leads into Thanksgiving. I hope you have a wonderful holiday!

Hi there Jean, Happy Canadian Thanksgiving! Smart idea to have decorations that work for both Halloween and Thanksgiving; like this. Must try. 🙂 Thanks for stopping in for a visit.
