A story for each day in December.
I love chocolate!
In fact, I always have a stash of dark, sea salt chocolate in my cupboard. So when I think of advent calendars my mind (and mouth) go straight to chocolate.
But, guess what? I’ve found something even better.
A literary gift for each day
The 2015 short story Advent Calendar is the brilliant creation of Michael Hingston, a books columnist for the Edmonton Journal (his work has also appeared in The Walrus, Wired and The Globe and Mail). In my conversation with Michael, he shared with me that the authors featured in the advent calendar are from all over North America.
Other than the five authors already announced, it is top secret as to which additional authors and stories are included in the calendar. I do have it on good authority that the caliber of authors is stellar, including a New York Times best seller. Can’t wait for the reveal!
Going, going….will be gone.
The advent calendar is designed by Natalie Olsen and each bound booklet is sealed and stored in a beautiful, full colour slipcase with a lid, this way your collection of short stories will have a longer life than your Christmas tree.
Each story is of a length that is manageable to read on the day you open it. You can also join in on conversations online (follow along on twitter @ssac2015) fostering a temporary pop-up community all reading the same story on the same day.
The thing is, you need to move quick to get one of these advent calendars. They are only available online and only until early November. And when they run out, they run out.
Who will you give one to? Or perhaps a gift for yourself ? This is my dilemma.
