Tick-tock
Clocks have a funny way of haunting me.
It’s like that nefarious horror scene in the movies where the gongs are ringing, the tick-tock sounds are magnified and soon the main character is shuffled off to the insane asylum.
Clocks can illuminate the passing of time for us, can’t they?
Have you made a time capsule before? Maybe you have put little mementos you have cherished inside a tin can. Or perhaps you have added your trinkets to a container you buried deep beneath the grass at the foot of a special tree.
Time in a bottle
I have done neither. Until now.
I am going to participate in a group project, initiated over at More Love Letters, where a time capsule of love letters is being created. When I say love letters it doesn’t mean the lovey, dripping with valentine’s day hearts all over it, I mean a letter that speaks to who you are and your legacy that you want to leave behind. If you are interested in getting in on the fun all letters must be post marked by October 31, 2013. You can find more details here.
Bury it
Perhaps you would like to do your own time capsule as a family weekend activity or to celebrate a milestone birthday. Aren’t these tags just perfect to include in your time capsule? I thought so too. You can find them here.
Some ideas as to what to include in your very own time capsule:
1) photos of you and your family
2) newspaper
3) handwritten letter to your future self
4) have the kids complete this quiz
5) list of all the hi-tech gadgets you currently use (and the corresponding version/generation)
6) grocery store flyer – to show the prices of things today
7) coins, paper money
8) favorite mementos
9) picture of clothing or fashion styles of the day
10) a book
Did you ever make your own time capsule?
Alli
I’ve never thought about doing a time capsule before. But you’ve got me thinking about it. Love the collection of clocks. Thanks for sharing at Throwback Thursday.
Barb
Hi Alli, Loved your idea of a ‘throw back’ linkup. I am so new to blogging that I didn’t have any posts from last Christmas season so I thought people might enjoy these clocks. Glad you liked them. Have a lovely day.
Laurie
Love the clocks! This sounds like a great idea. I hope it’s everything you want it to be. Thank you for sharing in my SITS Day today!
Barb
Thanks for popping on over for a visit Laurie. I hope your SITS day was fantastic! 🙂
Heather
What a fantastic idea! I can’t wait to head over and read more about it. Thanks for linking up with us last month for the Monthly Review Linkup!

The picture of the clocks is a great picture. The time capsule sounds fun. I have always wanted to be a part of the opening of a time capsule. I am very fascinated by the lives of people in the past.
Barb
Hi Ruth, I wish I knew who took the clock photo as I too think it is wonderful. There is something so fascinating about the thought of opening up the past isn’t there? Perhaps you will make your own time capsule. Thanks for taking the time to visit ritewhileucan.
Mo at Mocadeaux
We made a time capsule at the turn of the millennium with our kids and some dear family friends. We had planned to open it ten years later but that seemed too soon. We could still remember most everything that was in it. So, that time capsule has moved around the country with us. We haven’t decided when to open it. Maybe in 2020?
Barb
Mo, I love that your time capsule moves with you! What kind of container is it in? 2020 seems right I think – that way so much would have changed. What a great idea to ring in the millennium. Thanks for taking the time to stop in and visit. xoxo
Julie
I will definitely ‘bury it’ and hope to this weekend 🙂 Fantastic idea. Barb. I actually love clocks. I’m actually envious of all of the clocks in that picture! I think it’s more that I have a thing for antiques and vintage items. Thanks for another great blog! You always get met thinking 🙂
Barb
Hey there clock lover, need to hear all about what you include in your time capsule. Have fun with it Julie. Loved seeing your comment here.
