I have a special treat for you. Two gals I’ve come to know through snail mail are my guests on the blog today. They tell it like it is.
For a peek into how some younger friends view letter writing, grab a cuppa and enjoy. I love these two!
Girls blogging about teenage life
“Hi all! We’re Cassandra (15) and Kaitlyn (12). We blog over at The World from the View of Two Teenage Girls. We enjoy drinking tea (or forgetting about our tea until it’s cold), having intense jam sessions to 5 Seconds of Summer, sending and receiving mail, spontaneous photo shoots, blogging, and going on adventures. Learn more about us and our adventures by checking out our blog!
Here’s why writing a letter is more personal than sending a text.
We absolutely love writing and sending letters. It feels so much more personal than a text, and it’s exciting to go to the mail box and find a surprise inside. It’s so exciting to open a letter and see that someone took the time out of their day to write to you. Texting and emailing is so easy and fast, when you write a letter you have to stop what you’re doing.
You can get pretty much anything in the mail.
Writing letters isn’t something we got into very quickly. It was pretty gradual for us. It started when we first found out we could use sites like Vonbeau to find offers for free samples that could be mailed to us. We started requesting everything. It definitely got out of control. We found that getting a surprise in the mail was fun and exciting, but we really didn’t need a billion shampoo and conditioner samples.
Mail is a new form of art.
Around this time we started seeing pretty mail on Pinterest and Tumblr. It was like a whole new form of art! We were really inspired by them and wanted to start sending our own. We found that we could make really cool envelopes out of all the magazines we wound up with free subscriptions to.
At first, we just wrote to each other. Eventually, we started writing to one of our blog friends, Raewyn. Then we found Barb’s blog and now we write to her too. We’re still on the hunt for more pen pals though.
Setting up a hub for teens who want to exchange letters
Unfortunately, there aren’t many people our age who are interested in writing letters. Not that it isn’t fun to write with our blog friends; just it would be cool to be able to talk to people our own age across the continent, or even the world. We think this should change! It’s generally considered “uncool” to send letters, especially with everyone so absorbed with the newest technology today.”
Thank you Cassandra and Kaitlyn for sharing your thoughts on teens and snail mail. You have inspired me to go a step further.
Are there any teens out there interested in exchanging letters? Or, perhaps you know a teen that would be interested? They must be out there somewhere, I’m convinced of it, especially after meeting these two dynamos.
If so, leave a comment here on the blog and I will see what I can do about starting a ‘hub’ for teens who want to connect via snail mail.
Maybe we can get Cassandra and Kaitlyn some more pen pals!

Hello there Merlinda, How lucky you are to receive snail mail. I completely agree, there is something ‘magical’ about it. Thanks for stopping by. Will pop over to return the visit soon.

Try the Letter Writer’s Alliance or International Geek Girl Pen Pals Club. Particularly with IGGPPC, they have are broken into age groups, and each month you have the option of signing up for a new pen pal, plus there always swaps and other activities that can also get you other pen pals. It’s a lot of fun 🙂
Barb
Thanks so much for your awesome suggestions Krystelle. I am familier with LWA but haven’t heard about IGGPPC – will pass info along and explore. Thanks for taking the time to stop in.

I agree! So much nicer than bills and grocery adverts 😉
Barb
I’ll take a letter any day in the mailbox! Makes my day, it does.
