Shhh, Back to School
I’m of the mind if you don’t speak it, it isn’t true. At least this is my mantra as it relates to saying good-bye to summer.
Nevertheless, no matter how long I choose to be in denial, school starts in 2 weeks for my kids.
The black hole of used up school supplies
So, here’s the thing. I get a little giddy about new school supplies. I usually have to use restraint when out and about amongst all those paper things just calling my name.
I don’t know about you, but the crayon nubbies and half used pencil crayons always seem to find a home in the cupboard each year, never to see the light of day again.
Make something new out of something old
So when I saw these pictures frames at one of my favorite shops, Steeling Home, I was thrilled.
Now, the fine folks over at Cupcakes and Cartwheels do it up right, but I think these frames can serve as inspiration for anyone.
I bet some of you crafty, creative folk out there could whip these up in a jiffy.
And so, as I unearth the backpacks, take stock of the running shoes and other back to school gear, I will cherish the summer memories made this year.
How about you, do you love that back to school is just around the corner? Or do you dread it?
Kris
Barb,
I am the crafty type…I like the idea but my VERY practical self is wondering how you cut the crayons.
I like your blog which my friend introduced me to.
Barb
Hello there Kris, So lovely to meet you. I have just popped over to see your blog and it would seem we have much in common. Not only are we Calgary ‘neighbors’ but my kids attend a french school (my husband is the francophone parent). And there’s the blogging thing…. Anyway, to answer your question about cutting the crayons; the best I can come up with is a serrated knife or mini wood saw? I have not tried this myself so you will have to let me know how it works. So glad you found my little corner of the blogosphere and liked what you found. P.S. Have you heard of the Calgary Bloggers group? email me for more info if interested.

These are beautiful! Looks like a project my daughter would love. Thanks for sharing.
Stopping by from the SITS Sharefest.

Mo at Mocadeaux
Oh how I miss shopping for school supplies! I still have bags of crayons and colored pencils from the days when my kids were in school and they are 29 and 32 years old! Now I have some great ideas to make use of the “antique” school supplies!
Barb
Hello there Mo! So lovely to see you. I am in awe of your collection of crayons and coloured pencils. Good luck on making those vintage picture frames. Maybe you should give one to your kids? Thanks for stopping in for a visit.
Jean
I love these! Wouldn’t it be fun to do that and put the yearly school photos in the frames? Thanks for a great idea on what to do with the 3 buckets full of crayons and pencils in our closet.
Barb
Hi there Jean, I’m tickled pink I could help you out with your closet full of crayons and pencils. What a great idea you have to use as yearly school frames. Hope your BackToSchool transition goes smoothly. Thanks for stopping in.
Amber
I love back to school! But I am dreading the homework battles and waking up early.
I also don’t craft. I try, but it doesn’t end well.
Barb
Amber, I love back to school too! But just in September, not in July. The think I dread most is making the school lunches. Ugh. I love your comment about crafting. I know all too well of what you speak as I often fall into that category myself. Thanks for your visit.
