What was in my mailbox this week. No.10
It has been awhile since I shared what was in my mailbox this week – a series of posts where I feature a sampling of the mail I receive. Thanks to all who keep my mailbox full.
Long time letter writer, Eva, has a knack for beautiful envelopes and eye catching stamps. This piece above traveled far and long to reach me from Spain.
Letter writing truths
This has got to be the best postcard I’ve seen in a long time. Perfect because it is so true and we die-hard letter writers realize this. I have to say though, that it never stops me from writing someone, even if nothing comes back in return.
Thanks for the Eeyore nugget of wisdom, Janet. One of the most prolific postcard senders I know, Janet lives here in Calgary. I can’t keep up with her weekly postcards.
Paper goods in the UK
This very pretty envelope (you should have seen the gorgeous matching paper) that comes from England. Something about the ‘Royal Mail’ postmark that is most endearing as well.
Sharon and I have exchanged letters a couple of times now, and each time I am ‘wowed’ by the paper goods available in the UK. I need to go there.
Postcard and matching stamps
Cary, from Texas, sent me this super fun postcard.
He shared on the back that “after a day of letter writing I worked up an appetite for Tex-Mex” and so off he headed to Chuy’s restaurant. He couldn’t have picked more perfect stamps.
And now, I’m hungry for some empanadas.
Book Lover Postcard Swap
The below postcard was from my swap partner, Andrea, in the latest Book Lover Postcard Swap. I am on the hunt for her book recommendations.
If you love to read and like to send mail you should really join us. The next one will most likely be later this Fall closer to Christmas.
How to get mail in your mailbox?
Someone commented to me last week, when they saw how much mail I received, that they wished they too had a full mailbox.
What suggestions would you give someone if they wanted to start receiving mail?
Ramona
Thanks, Barb, I love these “what-was-in-my-mailbox-this-week” posts, and seeing all your mail is so inspiring! To answer your question, if someone wants to start receiving mail, start by finding penpals, and sending mail. If you send, you shall receive! Barb passed along some links to potential PenPal websites, and introduced me to a lovely lady that I still write to. I found some snail-mailers on PenPalWorld.com, and have also sent and received quite a few postcards on PostCrossing.com. Thanks again for encouraging the hand-written letter, Barb!

So glad you like these glimpses into my mailbox. Someone suggested I also to a snapshot of my outgoing mail too. Might have to do that too, just to change things up from time to time. I love that you are still writing to someone you met via the info you’ve found here on the blog. That is amazing. And thanks for other suggestions too on how to start receiving mail. p.s. reminds me, I need to update that part of the blog and add a few more sites.
Eva
I’m glad this one arrived. But I’m amazed it took so long. It was sent in August.
Definitely, we have no luck in our snail mail exchanges, you and me! 😀

I think you and me, we haven’t luck with our mail exchanges!
Barb
It does seem like our mail takes forever to reach one another, doesn’t it?! Good thing we keep trying. 🙂

It’s funny you say you’re wowed by stationery here in the UK, because I think we’re pretty wowed with the stationery and stamps you get over there!
I love snail mail, there’s just something about receiving a personal letter or postcard. 🙂
Barb
That is funny, Nikki! Perhaps it is a case of what is different or new seems somehow more charming?! Thanks for your perspective on that. p.s. I’m with you on the personal touch of a letter or postcard.
