Paper with personality
I have a thing for wrapping. Anyone who knows me will tell you I’m headed down the slippery slope of insanity on this one, but what can I do? I love seeing what paper ideas I can come up with that are beautiful, yet just a bit different. Ideas that have a little of personality.
As soon as I saw the wrapping selections by Fair Goods, those type and typographic aficionados (based in Calgary I might add) I stopped in my tracks. And the ribbon. Did you see the ribbon? Hilarious statements like, ‘not a fruit cake’ or “this is not a drugstore advent calendar’ made me howl.
#AwesomeGift
The concept of asking 13 typographers and designers to create gift wrap using type or lettering was just brilliant. What amazing, different, designs they came up with. Not your average red and green Christmas wrap, that’s for sure.
The use of #hashtags on the gift cards with clever, funny messages, again brings a bigger smile on Christmas morning.
Make your own
Although I’ve used several sheets for my Christmas gifts, what I also appreciated in the Glyph Wrap and Hashtags was the creative variety of designs that can be used any time of year.
If you have a hankering to make your own typographic gift wrap Fair Goods shares the ‘how-to.’
Jingle wrap
I’m completely smitten with this ‘Jingle’ design by Jeff Rogers. I’m still thinking of alternative uses for it other than wrapping, just way too beautiful to use as wrap. Any suggestions?
In the meantime, it is time to wrap up the last of those gifts, or in my case, START the wrapping.
Are you ready for the big day?

I really like anything that is “plain-ish”. I love Kraft-colored paper and rustic wrapping. I’m not a fan of the act of wrapping however and very often just want to throw things in a (gift) bag, add some tissue and be done with it. This year, though, I found some plastic tape, sort of like electrical tape, in large rolls at the hardware store. I LOVE tape….speaking of the slippery slope….. Turns out this was the perfect option for sealing packages. It was red and added to the decor. Then I wrapped the box with many rounds of baker’s twine and put a chalkboard tag (lettered very simply with liquid chalk marker). They turned out as if I had given much thought and spent much effort. I even received a couple compliments from family members on the wrapping. Shazam!! All of that said, I DO love and appreciate a beautifully wrapped package (especially if it is for ME 🙂 ).

I love that you LOVE tape! I would love to see a picture of your wrapping….probably all ripped open in a hurry by now… 🙂 You make me smile.
