End of school letter to the teacher
When the page flips on the calendar to June, the countdown begins. School is almost over. As the school year begins to evaporate, many of us will wonder what to get the teachers as a thank-you gift for teaching the kids.
I seriously find this exhausting. Not because I don’t value and think highly of the teachers; they are amazing in so many ways, but because I don’t want to get ‘same-old-same-old’ and I want it to be meaningful.
You may have heard of creative teachers like Bruce Farrer who had his students write a letter to themselves which he would return to them 20 years later. That is just downright amazing!
The letter is the gift; the gift of time and from the heart
So, here’s what I’m thinking. What if we turned that idea on its side and had our students write an end of school letter to the teacher ?
Not necessarily a thank-you card for the teacher, but of course, that would be great too, but a letter sharing their personal thoughts. They could write about what they like in school, special things they appreciate about their teacher, their favorite colour, what they ate for breakfast, anything on their heart they might want to share.
I think this would be a very cool gift to give a teacher to show how much they were appreciated this school year. To get things started here are some easy, very doable tips for any age of student to write a letter to their teacher.
What end of school year thank-you traditions do you do?

Great idea! Think I’ll use this with my girls when they reach school age. 🙂

No doubt their teachers will love it Jessica. Thanks for popping by.

I sure like the idea of a card being the ‘gift’ to the teacher. Nothing greater than what comes from the heart…smiles (written with our own hands!) 🙂

Me too, Sydney. I think that the gift of a letter is way more meaningful than yet another gift card or mug. Of course, I’m biased. 😉
